About Muddy Kinzer

After spending the past 16 years raising my three wonderful boys, I’m ready to step back into the work force. I’m excited to pursue a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Seattle Pacific University, preparing me to be a high school teacher in English and Biology. I’m also a writer, exploring the concept of identity in fictional characters. I love spending time with my kids, running, kickboxing, reading, and watching good movies and television shows. On weekends I’m on the sidelines, cheering on my sons as they play soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. A Southern California native, I’ve been enduring the rain and celebrating the Pacific Northwest summers for the past 25 years.

Interest and Experience

With zero experience in art or teaching, I stepped into the role of Volunteer Art Docent in my oldest son’s third grade class eight years ago. What I didn’t know, I learned online or from watching my fellow art docents and my son’s teacher. I failed often, and from every failure, I learned tips on formulating lesson plans suitable for each particular age group, techniques on time and classroom management, and the delicate art of managing my fellow parent helpers. Somewhere along the way, I realized I loved teaching. I’ve taught art for all three of my sons’ classes in every grade of their elementary school career since and served as the Explore Art Co-Chair for three years. I also tutor, teach kickboxing classes, and work one-on-one with special needs students with special needs as a Substitute Para-Educator. I love teaching art, but when it came time to choose endorsements, I turned to my first loves: Biology (BA in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from UC San Diego, DDS from UW) and English (MFA in Creative Writing from Fairfield University). I am eager to dive in to the MAT program and learn everything I can to become an effective and enthusiastic teacher.
